CAPE VET is the only equine practice in Cape Town that is involved in the import of horses from overseas and has over 10 years’ experience in the field. Quarantine is required to prevent contagious diseases, not present in South Africa, from entering the country with the imported horses. This involves a stringent process of testing over a period of 4 weeks while the horses are in our care. Due to the recent outbreak of African Horse Sickness in the Mamre area of the Western Cape, exports from Cape Town have greatly diminished. However we are still involved in the export of horses to Mauritius and have a wealth of knowledge on the requirements.
