DR KATE MEIRINGPARTNER
Dr Kate Meiring graduated from the University of Pretoria's, Faculty of Veterinary Science in 2002. Kate then joined a busy surgical referral practice in Kyalami. She took a special interest in lameness diagnostics and gained valuable experience treating sport horses under the guidance of Dr Roy Gottshalk.
Kate took over the CAPE VET practice from Dr Vere Allin in 2008. She pursued her interest in continued professional development by completing a post graduate diploma in Business Management from the Graduate School of Business, UCT. By 2014, CAPE VET had two new partners and was running smoothly. In 2015 Kate started to pursue her keen interest in Sports Medicine by completing a post graduate diploma in Sports Medicine through the University of Dublin, Ireland. Kate’s love for trail running and mountain biking continue to fuel her passion for sports medicine. Kate is currently an ISELP (International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology) member and aims to become ISELP certified in the near future. Her special interests include sports medicine and rehabilitation, lameness diagnostics and cardiology. DR LEE BARAGWANATHPARTNER
Dr Lee Baragwanath grew up in Polokwane, Limpopo. She qualified as a veterinarian from the University of Pretoria's, Faculty of Veterinary Science in 2013. She went on to complete her honours (with equine interest) in Veterinary Science in 2018.
Lee first started off at an equine referral clinic in Pretoria then moved to Nelspruit to do mixed animal practice for a few years, where she realised she wanted to work more with horses. Lee started riding horses when she 12 and and competed as a show jumper for many years, although not competitive anymore, her warmblood gelding recently moved to Cape Town and she hopes to get back into the ring. Lee is a registered FEI Permitted Treating vet. Lee enjoys all aspects of ambulatory equine practice with a special interest in sports medicine, lameness diagnostics and rehabilitation as well as wound management and gastrointestinal problems. Sr Phil Martyn qualified as a vet nurse in the UK in 2005. With more than 10 years experience in the veterinary field she is a huge asset to our team.
Phil runs a small animal vaccination clinic and is available for dog and cat vaccines, nail clipping, weight loss guidance etc. Phil is also Cape Vet's practice manager, admin assistance and general jack of all trades. Phil is married to Aubrey and they have two beautiful children, Michael and Olivia. |
DR LAUREN BREWISPARTNER
Dr Lauren Brewis graduated from the University of Pretoria's, Faculty of Veterinary Science in 2008. After graduating, Lauren worked at a busy referral practice in Kwazulu Natal for 4 years, where she gained valuable experience in the veterinary side of the racing industry, treating and managing complicated colic and respiratory problems and surgical anaesthesia.
Lauren joined CAPE VET in November 2012 and worked as an assistant vet before taking up partnership with Kate and Dr Anna Peggram in March 2014. Lauren is a registered FEI permitted treating vet and the Official Western Cape FEI measuring vet. Prior to studying veterinary science Lauren completed a BSc Agriculture degree at Stellenbosch University, with a focus on equine nutrition. Her special interest is in equine medicine and nutrition, including colic, respiratory problems, endocrine and dietary management and she is now a qualified Legacy Equine Nutrition Advisor. Lauren is an avid runner and animal lover and together with husband Adrian, she has a son, daughter, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a pony. DR LEZANNE GUNTERVETERINARIAN
Lezanne qualified as a veterinarian from the University of Pretoria's, Faculty of Veterinary Science in 2013. She went on to complete a years internship at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital in the equine department. In 2015, Lezanne moved to Cape Town to a busy referral practice, where she been practiced for 6 years. Lezanne has extensive experience in managing complicated colic cases as well as post surgical recovery and wound management and much more.
Lezanne likes all spheres of equine practice especially colic, lameness and wound management and healing. Her special interest is in Chinese Veterinary Medicine, and she is a certified veterinary acupuncturist. Outside of work you can find Lezanne hiking, cycling and keeping fit, otherwise on the beach or at home with "Bruce" her pensioner pitbull rescue and friends and family. |
